To the male lit agent who was so offended when I declined his business card (because I was already represented) that he said, “well, you look like you write cozies, anyway.” I named a character after you. He dies. <3
Love every one of these and am going to start compiling my own! These remind me of the line from Writers & Lovers, when Adam says something like ‘I find it extraordinary that you think you have something to say.’
Ohh the catharsis! I also have a “you begged me to read the manuscript and I didn’t want you to but you kept begging and begging so I begrudgingly caved, and now six months later, you still haven’t read it…” and it’s my mother, hahaha.
I love every word of this! I’m still avenging the high school English teacher who told me in the middle of sophomore year that I probably shouldn’t pursue the honors track junior year. Well, Charlotte L., you were wrong in your analysis of Willy Loman and you were wrong about me! (This is so cathartic, thank you!)
Love this so so much and also glad to know someone else does this!! Also I recommended your newsletter in mine (I do 2 and one is not on Substack) cause I like it so much and because it’s a great example of building your list before a book in a relevant smart way ❤️
Mine: A heartfelt thank you to my family for treating me like an ugly duckling for so many years - you've given me heaps of useful writing material! ~:0P
"To T, D, and J, for begging me to send you my unfinished manuscript, then never bothering to read it when I did." This one!! Yes!! I've had so many people agree to read/critique stuff for me, then they just ghost! Like, I totally get if you don't have time or don't want to read it, but be a grown up and email me back! lol
For the male author at prestigious writing workshop who knocked my story because a female character endangering her children was unbelievable (I swear I don’t hurt my kids IRL but umm okay dude).
omg, in all the times I've imagined my acknowledgments page, I've never thought about doing it 'fuck you' style. I'm going to have to journal this out because my mind is buzzing. One would be to my ex for calling writing my 'little hobby'.
Obsessed. One of mine may have to be:

DO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH I FELT THAT IN MY SOUL?????

😂😂 😂 I hesitated on the line about my parents, but I know they’ll never read this
Ughhh. I'm sorry and I understand!!

HAHAHAHA! Thanks for sharing. I knew I wasn't alone!
The children and free time dedication really resonates too! 😂
A very similar memory just came back to me. Oh wow. I’m rethinking my whole (not yet written) dedication page now.
👀
I know, I love this - even just as a therapeutic exercise!
It felt good, I can’t lie
Please include all of this and more! I love it!
I DO THE SAME THING! I always read acknowledgements and picture what mine would look like. Love yours to your children about free time 😂
😂💕
These are great!
Love this! Refreshing, honest and hilarious.

Thank you so much, Jennifer!! 🖤🖤🖤
It's so tough to get to where you've gotten that you're allowed some snarky schadenfreude. It's fun to ride your coattails.
It was a snarky kind of day! Ha!!
Ha! Very funny post! Love the photo!

Hell yes, use it all!
Oh love this!
Ha! Oh man. I absolutely love this. Can this be a recurring series? A movement? I’m in! ❤️
Ha! I hope so!! #youknowwhatyoudid

You just unlocked a memory for me…
