On the bright side, May is a better month to debut in, because booklovers are searching for the perfect novel to read over the summer holidays. Plus, most people are broke in January, thanks to celebrating Christmas. Good luck with the launch, Laura. I will go pre-order your book now! 🙂

As soon as I saw the word “pushed,” my heart hurt for you. But your piece was so beautiful and uplifting that I know, without knowing you, that your new pub date is just as it should be. Stay positive and keep writing. You’ve got a big future ahead of you!

"Like we’re never gonna get there. The big question is… Where is there?" Where is the here and now. You have a fabulous newsletter. Do you edits and get going on other projects. Live the writing not the waiting life. Hang in there. It will be great.

Feel your feels! It's okay to take a breath and be disappointed before moving on. Sounds like Lori has some great pointers too. Good luck!

I love how you allow yourself the freedom to feel the disappointment, but also know how to see the bright sides at the end! I'll always keep a look out for your book no matter when it comes out!!

Thank you for writing about this, Laura! I’m sorry it happened and I really admire how you’re reframing it. Agree 100% with what you’ve said about control. I find it hard coping with uncertainty / unknowns and publishing is certainly full of them!

I totally get it—my pub date was pushed back ONE month and I immediately felt depressed/worried/panicked, even though my editor also assured me it’s just a logistical thing. And it really is! I used to be a managing editor at a big publisher and we absolutely pushed back pub dates for utterly benign reasons of scheduling. It’s totally ok (but also yes, absolutely feel your feels!)

Book publishers not like trains. They run on their own schedules. Best to put on a good face, roll with it, and hope sales of this book knock ‘em out so next time, they’ll keep your calendared date.
